Timelines (2023)

The video work Timelines, presents the story of the female members of the Esterházy family. Marcell Esterházy selected anecdotes and reminiscences from the several hours of audio recordings collected by his father, Péter Esterházy and asked the current female members of the family to memorise and recite them. Through the narration of his mother, his sisters and his wife, we can hear the often dramatic stories and family secrets from the mid-20th century. In highlighting the threads of women’s history, the private sphere and episodes related to family-emotional life, Marcell Esterházy also points out that historiography as discourse is not without value, not even in what it deems worthy of investigation.
